I have been participating actively on the Internet for more than 15 years now. I remembered that my first domain and website were set up on 1996. Many domains were registered since then. However many domains were also expired and not renewed too. I agree that I am a person that plan very well but always not action well. Sometimes when I think of a new topic and wish to start a new website then I will register a new domain immediately. When thinking back I really can't believe that many websites still had never been started up to now.
How many domains do I keep now?
I am now keeping for about 30 dot com domains with about 25 websites. In other words websites are never set up for some domains. I simply renew the domains years after years.
It's time for a change.
It's time for a change. It's time to re-organize all my websites. It's time to focus on and maintain some websites only. I really do not have enough time to manage and update so many websites.
Blog vs Website?
I have been noticing the rapid development of blogs since 2000. Strange enough, I never think to start my own blog until recently. I don't know why. Maybe I used to setup websites. Actually blog is much easier to maintain. No web page editor is required. No FTP client is required. New pages can be composed any time and anywhere easily. I can even update the blog during my vacation!
This is quite encouraging that there are thousands of blogs on the Internet with very high PageRank, many of them even get PR7! Although this is a bit late, this is very obvious that I should set up a blog now.
For the past few weeks, I have been studying many successful blogs on the Internet. I noticed that most blogs are simply personal blogs. Unlike a website which usually focus on a topic, a blog can be written with many different categories. I can write anything up to my mind, for example, what I did today, restart a server, install a new software, read a book, sign up a new affiliate program, discover a very useful website, how much I earned on the Internet, etc...
If "serious" is used to describe a website then a blog can be described as "casual". I can write a blog with more degree of freedom. I agree that not all contents are suitable for a blog. Therefore I will still keeping some websites, but probably only three to five websites.
Now I am very excited to start this blog. The next step I need to do is delete some websites and then move some contents into this blog. Of course I will also write some new contents at the same time.
